Through this visualization, I wish to uncover any potential correlation between the density of trees in San Francisco and the number of people living below the poverty line in each census tract. Trees are known to have a positive impact on the environment and the mental health of people. It would be interesting to see if there is a correlation between the number of trees in an area and the number of people living below the poverty line.
This page shows two maps of San Francisco. The first map shows the density of trees in the city. The second map shows the number of people living below the poverty line in each census tract. The maps are colored based on the density of trees and the number of people living below the poverty line, respectively.
The first map uses contour lines created from preprocessing the tree data (code in file). The second map uses data from the US census bureau for 2023. The geojson for census tracts was sourced from a shapefile of census tracts in the US and GDAL was used to filter only SF and convert the shapefile to geojson.
